Welcome to the very first part of my new Basic Choices series. Getting on the latest trends is great, I have nothing against it, however, you won’t be able to do much with them if the base of your day-to-day wardrobe is in chaos. Building out a closet is much the same as building a house – you must lay a solid foundation if you want it to serve its actual purpose. That said, it’s not easy at all. There are more or less a million things that can be wrong with a single white tee or a pair of denim jeans. The cut, the colour, the fabric, the fit, the collar – you name it.
I’ve decided to start these series of posts so that life would become a touch easier. And trust me, having a coordinated wardrobe you can always count on, does exactly that.
Basic t-shirts are the starting point of every good wardrobe, for sure. All white tees look exactly the same, one might say. I would completely disagree with such belief. Pieces like t-shirts that wear well, keep their shape and are perfect to the detail (meaning the right length, the shape of the collar, fit, etc.) are extremely hard to find. So, if you managed to discover that perfect one you really love, buy more than one. Nothing is sadder than a discontinued wardrobe hero.
Personally, I think the best basics come from ex-boyfriends. Alternatively, you can look around the men’s section yourself. I do that fairly often and honestly, many of my friends do so too. Of course, if you’re looking for a more feminine and a tighter fit, you’ll still need to turn back to the womenswear stores. Here I did a little research for you and listed a few of my, my friends’ or bloggers’ I trust favourites.
Enjoy and let me know if you found anything useful!
